【Connecting Acupuncture — and Toasting by Ordinance! 🍶】

On October 3, I traveled to Kobe to attend the National Conference of the Japan Acupuncture and Moxibustion Association.

This year’s theme was:

“Connecting Acupuncture, Opening the Future — From Kobe to the World.”

I had the opportunity to learn about the long history of Japanese acupuncture, including the ancient medical text “Ishinpō,” as well as practical hands-on techniques.

And, of course, there was plenty of good food and sake at the reception, where I enjoyed meeting and exchanging ideas with many wonderful practitioners from across Japan.

In other words, I was literally putting “Connecting Acupuncture” into practice.(笑)

But what really caught my attention was this:

【Kobe has an ordinance promoting toasts with Nada sake! 🍶】

Yes — an actual local ordinance encourages people to toast with Nada sake at gatherings, with the aim of deepening appreciation of Japanese culture and fostering pride in the local community.

I love it.

Kobe:
A city where acupuncture connects people,
sake connects people,
and apparently, an ordinance helps connect people, too.

Now I’m thinking…

Maybe Meguro needs a “Toast with Meguro’s Local Specialty” ordinance as well. 😂

I just need to figure out what we should be toasting with first!

A wonderful and inspiring trip to Kobe.

Thank you to all the local organizers and practitioners in Hyogo, especially Mr. Kazuya Moriguchi, President of the Hyogo Acupuncture and Moxibustion Association and Chair of this year’s conference.

Until the next “connected” gathering!
